For the Love of Art. Juried show

Norcross Gallery and Studios is happy to announce For the Love of Art, the first juried show of 2023. NG&S, formerly known as Kudzu Art Zone, is a 501(c)3 organization of volunteer artists whose focus is supporting growth and development of local art and artists throughout the community. We promote this by expanding awareness of visual arts through education, exhibitions, and special programming.

Judging

Chin-Cheng Hung has been a foundation studies professor at Savannah College of Art and Design since 1999, first in Savannah then Atlanta. He is a member of the Portrait Society of America, the Southeastern Pastel Society, and the Pastel Society of America. His reputation is international, with numerous exhibits both at home and abroad and awards from prestigious magazines such as Pastel Journal and American Artist.

Dates to Remember

February 25, 2023 —”Winter Warmth” closes.

February 24-25, 2023 —Artists bring up to three artworks to the gallery.

March 2 – April 15, 2023 —Exhibition open Thurs, Fri and Sat 11- 4pm, and by special appointment. All exhibitors must gallery sit to cover a fair share of the sitting dates during the exhibit.

March 12, 2023 – Reception, 4-7pm.

Eligibility

  • The exhibit is open to current members of Norcross Gallery and Studios. Membership dues must be paid by day of entry.
  • Submissions must be less than three years old.
  • Works previously accepted to Norcross Gallery and Studios juried shows are not eligible. Works previously exhibited at a Spotlight show are eligible.

Fees

  • Entry fee for Gallery exhibitions is $30 for 1 – 3 pieces.
  • There is a 25% donation from the artist to Norcross Gallery and Studios for all sales
  • Artwork not for sale must be marked NF

Awards

Cash awards and ribbons are given for First, Second and Third Place, and two Honorable Mentions. A ribbon will be given for one People’s Choice award. No artist will be eligible to win more than one award.

Volunteering

All members who are submitting works for an exhibit must volunteer to gallery sit or find a substitute. There will be a calendar on display during submission listing gallery sitting dates. Please sign up on the calendar for two dates and include those dates on the submission form. Also choose an alternate third date in case your first two are taken.

Artwork Requirements

All work exhibited must be original art produced by the artist within the last 3 years. Work from kits, commercial designs, done in classes or under instruction is prohibited. All images must be original in composition. No copies or derivative work allowed.

Both 2D and 3D work is acceptable. 2D is any work that is designed to be displayed on a wall with a one-sided orientation. 3D is any work that is designed to be viewed on a pedestal or on the floor and by any direction. No digital art or jewelry will be accepted into this exhibition.

Prints defined as multiple originals where the artist’s hand has manipulated the plates, stone, blocks, composite reliefs, or screens and which are properly signed and numbered in limited editions are considered “original” and may be entered. Photocopies, giclees, offset reproductions, or machine-produced images are not considered print originals. They are considered reproductions and will not be accepted.

The maximum size of any 2D artwork entered is 48” on the longest side (including the frame), maximum weight 25 lbs. The maximum height for 3D artwork is 48” (with or without a stand), with a footprint no more than 24” x 24” and a weight of no more than 50lbs.

Works may be framed or unframed. Unframed canvasses must be “gallery wrapped” (no visible staples and sides must be painted) and no less than 1” deep. All works on paper must be framed.

Framed artwork must be framed according to NG&S framing requirements, which can be found on the Norcross Gallery and Studio’s website. This includes:

  • No sawtooth hangers
  • Picture wire must be hung from d-ring flaps placed 1/3 down from the top leaving 2 inches from top to accommodate hanging.
  • Use picture wire. Top of picture wire must be at least 2” from top.
  • Fill out a label including: your name, title of work, media, artwork size, and price to be placed on the back of artwork.
  • Please make sure your frame and glasswork are CLEAN! The Exhibit crew will not do any cleaning for you.
  • If an accepted work comes apart due to poor framing, it may be removed from the exhibit.

Works must remain for the duration of the exhibit unless the work is sold; work may be removed immediately by purchaser.

Sales

Artwork will be available for purchase and customers will be able to pay by cash, check or credit card. Artists will donate 25% of the final sale price to Norcross Gallery and Studios. More details on handling sales and payments are spelled out in the folder with the Gallery Sitting Check Lists.

Insurance

Kudzu Art Zone, Inc., DBA Norcross Gallery and Studios, Inc. does not carry insurance coverage for damages or losses to artworks, materials, or other items placed in the exhibit. Artists are encouraged to carry their own insurance.

Artwork Dropoff

Transportation to and from Norcross Gallery and Studios will be provided by the artist.

The drop off dates are February 24 and 25, 2023 between 11am and 4pm. Artwork not delivered to the gallery by 4 pm on February 25 will not be considered eligible. The exhibiting artist does not need to be present if the EXHIBITION SUBMISSION FORM is completed, including gallery sitting dates.

Please complete and sign the EXHIBITION SUBMISSION FORM. It can be completed before you arrive. You can find the form to download on our website in the “Members Only” section, under the “Forms and Documents” heading or you can pick up a form before or at the drop-off date.

Please read and follow the GENERAL EXHIBIT GUIDELINES and the “Framing Requirements,” both available on the “Members Only” section of the website. before dropping off work for the exhibit. It is important that your work is framed according to our guidelines. Any work not conforming to these requirements will not be accepted and will be returned to the artist.

Jury Process

All artwork will be juried in person. Decisions made by the juror are final. There will be feedback provided only if it is initiated by the juror.

Return of Artwork

Artists will pick up any artwork not chosen for the exhibition at Norcross Gallery and Studios within two weeks of notification. Any work that is accepted must be picked up within two weeks upon completion of the exhibit. Work left for longer than two weeks becomes the property of Norcross Gallery and Studios.

Final Note

Non-compliance with the Rules & Guidelines can result in requests for work to be removed from exhibit consideration, exhibition, and/or sale
