Artist and Designer, Karen has found a way to use her creative talents throughout her life. As a painter, her lively sketches and vibrant colors are reflective through most of her work, particularly in her commissioned pet portraits, a favorite subject.
Though she has worked in other mediums, she finds the permanence of oils to be her preference and is constantly challenging herself to try different styles.
In her high school years, winning the City Seal design for Forest Acres (a suburb of Columbia, SC) and being commissioned for several advertisements from local businesses - one that hangs in Paris, France - led Karen to pursue a career in the arts. She graduated from University of Georgia with a BFA degree in Graphic Design.
Of course, with the rapid onset of technology and the computer, she found herself having to reinvent herself. She has been a package designer, art director, sales manager, and residential kitchen and bath designer. Oh, and a single mom in between - Had to give up painting when she caught one of her toddlers dumping Dr Martin's concentrated dyes on the carpet.
Karen enjoys commissioned work - landscapes, college icons, pet portraits - and leading classes with her paint parties VanGogh2Go as seen in the premier issue of Jezebel Magazine. https://www.facebook.com/VanGogh2Go
She loves a challenge - to capture a memory and feeling on canvas whether a scene or a portrait. You can follow some of her paintings as they progress on facebook. https://www.facebook.com/kmjART
